Scacco matto

In Scacco Matto, the scene is constructed as a silent narrative suspended in time. On an aluminium game board, decorated with ornamental motifs, a few chess pieces emerge as traces of a game that has just begun or perhaps already ended.

On either side of the table two animals, a cat and a mouse, observe the scene from opposite positions. Their confrontation introduces a symbolic tension that recalls universal dynamics of challenge, strategy and survival. The game of chess thus becomes a metaphor for the relationship between strength and cunning, predator and prey, impulse and calculation.

The composition maintains a subtle balance between irony and reflection. The animal figures, made of copper anodised aluminium, dialogue with the silver surface of the table, creating a luminous contrast that amplifies the theatricality of the scene.

Through the language of embossed sculpture, the work transforms a moment of play into a symbolic representation of the dynamics that run through nature and human experience.

Technique: embossing and chiselling executed by hand on aluminium.
